Course overview

This one-day course covers the basics of first aid and is designed for people working in low-risk environments, including shops and offices. On completing the course, first aiders will be able to confidently provide emergency first aid if someone becomes ill or injured at work. Meets the HSE’s requirements for a first aider in a low-risk work environment. The course content is prescribed by the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 (as amended) Approved Code of Practice L74 (Third Edition). As per the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) announcement, courses now include automated external defibrillator (AED) training.

Course Content

  • Acting safely and effectively during and accident or emergency
  • The treatment and care for an unconscious patient
  • Recognising and treating seizures
  • Recognising cardiac arrest and performing CPR
  • Choking
  • Bleeding
  • Recording accidents at work

Aims

  • Understand the role of a first aider
  • Be confident in providing basic first aid at work
