The Control Of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002 requires employers to assess the health risks and precautions needed to prevent or control exposure to hazardous. RPE should be provided to protect employees from inhalation of fumes, dust and vapours. The type of mask will depend upon the work. For occasional use a disposable mask is often provided which should be discarded after each shift (unless exposure is high).
Non disposable masks should be cleaned and disinfected after each use or at least every working day. (Follow manufacturers instructions).
When using RPE in paint spraying conditions, examine and test equipment at least once a month.
For paint spraying and chemical use, a respirator with filters of the correct specification must be used.
