Asbestos Awareness03rd February 2014 | Legislation
Asbestos is gaining much attention for the HSE at the moment and this is set to continue as the European Commission (EC) has ruled that the UK, has not fully implemented an EC directive concerning protection of the workers from the risks of exposure to asbestos.
The HSE has launched a consultation, but subject to any consultation the result of complying with the EC’s ruling is likely to be a creation of work labelled “Notifiable Non-licensed Work”.
This will mean that all work on certain materials containing asbestos will need to be notified to the HSE before it begins, that medical examinations of those undertaking the work have to be carried out every three years, and records of work exposures to asbestos have to be kept by the employer.
